It appears that the House Republican plan to prevent Social Security from reallocating funds between retirement and disability recipients is not quite a done deal. In his budget proposal, President Obama has signaled his opposition to such a maneuver. The budget proposal calls for a reallocation now while all concerned parties figure out a way to avoid a long-term crisis. Per the President’s Spokesman, permitting reallocation now will buy many years of time to work out a permanent solution to the disability shortfall. This being Washington in 2015, it is impossible to know if anything will get done. But it is heartening to know that the President opposes the House GOP plan to cut benefits for our most vulnerable citizens, including many disabled veterans.
