For many people facing chronic or even terminal illnesses, the search for a cure becomes all consuming. This makes sense and can be productive. But, there is a dark side to the hunt for potential cures.
Phony Cures That Cost Real Money
The Washington Post ran an article about clinics and doctors who aggressively advertise to those people for whom most medical treatment will not provide relief. These clinics provide therapies that are outside the norms of traditional modalities. One popular example is the so-called stem-cell therapy. While this treatment may one day lead to new helpful procedures and even cures, it can do neither at present. That does not stop the dying and the desperate from trying it.
Avoid The Lung Health Institute
It would be one thing if the stem-cell therapy was part of a medical research project. Unfortunately, some of the clinics hawking stem-cell therapy are doing it for profit. One company called Lung Health Institute claims they can cure such fatal lung diseases as pulmonary fibrosis. For the record, there is no cure and pulmonary fibrosis is always fatal.
That did not stop the Lung Health Institute from spending huge sums of money advertising their treatments. Worse still, per the Washington Post, they employ sales tactics straight out of the boiler room. They run ads that popped up when people searched the internet regarding fatal illnesses, for example. They also encourage would-be patients to take out loans or even sell their possessions to pay them.
The Hardest Decision
It has to be the hardest decision a person makes when they conclude that no medical treatment will cure them. I can only imagine how painful this must be. But, for a company to prey on these poor souls when they are at the lowest point is beyond despicable. If there is a hell, it must be for guys like this.
Don’t Let Them Steal Your Dignity
If you hear about some medical miracle available to you for huge sums of money, think twice and then think again. It’s bad enough to be ill or dying. Don’t let some crooked outfit take away the one thing that no disease can ever take away: your dignity.
