Just a few weeks ago a study showed that placebos work almost as well as very expensive new pain killing medications. Now another study says that back pain sufferers should skip such prescription drugs as opioids and muscle relaxers entirely. The better option turns out to be Ibuprofen or naproxen. Sadly for the Mercks of the world, you can buy either of these in bulk at Costco or any drug store. Right now, you could buy 400 Ibuprofen pills for around $12.00 at Amazon.com. Take your prescription for Oxycontin down to Walgreens and I assure you the copay will be more than $12.00. That does not even account for what your insurance company will pony up.
Is it just me or do drug companies look ever more like organizations designed to make huge profits more than to cure or comfort the sick? Not an original thought, I know, but studies like this really give me pause.
