Binder & Binder have filed for bankruptcy in New York. It’s hard to see this as anything but good news for everyone involved in Social Security disability. These national firms that relentlessly advertise on TV do not have a very good reputation. I have had many clients leave B&B. A lot them were shocked to find out that their lawyer was thousands of miles away. Most former B&B clients had never once spoken to the lawyer who was supposed to be representing them. For a lot of these people, the very first time they ever meet anyone from B&B is moments before their Social Security hearing started. I saw this first hand. Some lawyer dashes into the hearing office, dragging her luggage behind her, and asks for Mr. Smith or Ms. Jones. The lawyer and the client had no idea whom the other was. The lawyer may never have been to this office before. She has no sense of the judge and no bank of good will to draw on. This put the client squarely behind the eight ball before word one is spoken. In a perfect world, all of these mass-advertisers would go away. I think you are always better off to hire locally for something as important as trying to secure Social Security disability benefits.
