Social Security disability claimants are right to be frustrated by the absurd delays in getting their cases resolved. We learned recently that there are now more than1,000,000 people waiting to see judges to learn if they will get disability benefits. With numbers like these, it makes sense that people would reach out to their elective representatives for assistance.
So, will your Senator speed up your claim?
No. Nothing will.
The Paper Chase
If you contact your Senator about your Social Security disability claim, he or she will write to Social Security to inquire about you. In response, Social Security will send a form letter back to your Senator saying “we are working on it.” Your Social Security disability file will now have two more pieces of paper in it. That will be the sum of what happens. Your case will not get any more attention.
Your case will not be processed faster. Nothing is going to change.
Too Many Trees?
If you think there are too many trees in the world and you would like to see some cut down to make paper to print pointless letters on, go ahead and contact your Senator. Otherwise, try to be patient while you wait for your hearing. I know that is much easier said than done, but looking for relief where none may found will only add to your frustration.
Have you written to your Senator about your Social Security disability claim? If so, what happened? Let me know.
