Often, when people call for my assistance, I cannot take on their cases. The reasons for this can vary. Most commonly, though, it is simply the type of claim that I am not accepting when the person calls. For example, I am not taking on mental health cases at the present time.
Not Passing Judgment
The important thing to remember if I do not take your case is that I am not passing judgment on the merits of your claim. Callers will generally tell me a compelling story about their medical issues. For most of these callers, they have good cases and many Social Security disability lawyers would be glad to assist them.
When I turn down a case, I make a point of explaining that my decision does not mean that the claimant should give up. I usually encourage these people to call other local lawyers. Even though I do this, I still worry that I am discouraging people from pursuing a winnable case when I say no.
It’s Hard To Keep Trying, But You Need To
I recognize that a lot of people are intimidated when it comes to calling a lawyer for help. When that lawyer then does not their cases, some of the people are going to give up. That would be a mistake.
When you reach out for assistance with your Social Security disability claim, keep in mind that not all lawyers take on all types of cases. If a lawyer declines to take your case, she is likely doing you a favor. As I tell people whom I cannot assist, you don’t want to hire a lawyer who starts out not fully committed to winning your case.
Lawyer Right Awaits
If you call me or another lawyer who does not seem interested, keep calling. The right lawyer is out there, waiting for your call. I have taken on claimants that other lawyers have rejected and won those cases. I am certain local lawyers have done very well with the cases I was not interested in.
The cliche tells us that persistence is a virtue. That is nowhere truer than when you need legal help with your Social Security disability claim.
As always, I welcome your questions and comments.
