The New Rules Are Aimed At Abuses By National Firms
Some of the new rules are aimed specifically at those national firms that troll the internet, luring in people who are trying to get disability benefits. The 5-Day rule, for example, was instituted in large part to address the fact that so many of these multi-state firms are not getting medical records into Social Security in time for hearings. If a company has claimants in all of the 50 states, they are going to struggle to keep up with ordering and providing medical records. These firms won’t know who the local doctors and hospitals are, leading to errors.
Doing Work In Bulk Means Skimping On Quality
So many of these national outfits can do disability claims on a massive scale because they put so little effort into trying to get their clients approved. The new rules, however, are going to make handling Social Security disability claims in bulk much harder. I would not be surprised to see more of these places go the way of Bender and Bender. That firm, as you recall, simply went under and left their clients with no representation. The first thing they did as they began to fail? Stop ordering medical records.
