It is no secret that diabetes can ravage a person’s eyesight. I have had countless clients with diabetic retinopathy and other vision complications. This is among the reasons to monitor your blood sugar closely and take your medications regularly if you are diabetic.
Another Reason To Keep Your Blood Pressure Low
New research points to another complication for diabetics. It seems that those diabetics with high blood pressure need more aggressive treatment to protect their eyesight. Doctors at the University of Michigan conducted a study of those diabetics who need anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (AVEGF) injections into their eyes to moderate the damage done by high blood sugar. Within this group, those diabetics who also had high blood pressure were more likely to need the injections. The doctors are not sure what is causing what here, but the correlation is notable.
Talk To Your Doctor
If you are a diabetic and also have high blood pressure, talk to your doctors. If you have one doctor for your eyes and one for your blood pressure, encourage them to work together. In any event, make sure you are treating both conditions. This appears to be the best way to protect your vision.
