In response to the Coronavirus pandemic that has shuttered so many businesses, Congress passed the CARES act. Among its provisions is one that will provide direct payments to most Americans. This apparently applies to those persons who are receiving Social Security disability benefits, both SSDI and SSI. Initially, CARES required people who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 to file one. Bowing to public pressure, the Trump administration dropped this requirement.
If You Get Your Check Via Direct Deposit, You’re All Set
Since most Social Security disability beneficiaries use direct deposit each month, the treasury should be able to send the CARES relief checks the same way. There is no telling when these checks might arrive. Optimistic projections say by the middle of April 2020.
Don’t Be Surprised By The Inevitable Delays
If you are getting Social Security disability, check your bank account to see if a CARES account relief check has arrived. Don’t be dismayed if it takes much longer than expected to happen. This is the government, after all.
